6 weekly sessions, plus 2 weekend Saturdays with hands on in the hive guidance.

Part 1 - member Marvin will bring in from Waimea his "long Langstroth" hive, where the hive box bodies expand side by side instead of the usual vertically stacking arrangement. Makes servicing the hive at a consistent height level, instead of picking up heavy hive boxes above you chest height.
Part 2 - Heather Forester, the Big Islands Invasive Ant Specialist from the universities Hawaii Ant Lab, will talk story about Little Fire Ants (LFA) in bee hives. With all the hive relocations in Puna here are some tips on how to prevent transfer of the ants, and how to deal with them when discovered in your apiary area. There are some grant funds available to help with moving hives and not transferring it with ants.

Presentation Topic: Checking your honey's moisture content - prevent fermentation. A review of different way to test for moisture content, and ways you can prevent fermentation when you store/package your honey.
