Hawaii Island Honey Company is looking for an experienced beekeeper to assist in the field operations. The position is on the Island of Hawaii (Big Island) in and around the Hilo area, managing a select number of hives within the spectrum of hawaiian honey flows. Hawaiian Island Honey Company speciallizes in the natural development of the honeybees and prides itself in idenifing charictaristics that minimize the impact of invastive pests and thus improving the quality of it honey and honeybees.
Hawaii is unique, in the fact that its honey flows seldom stop and managment of the hives and pests must be cooridated within these honey flows. This position requires exceptional record keeping, communication, and time management skills. Applicaticant must have a working knowledge of varroa mites, small hive beetles, and the reproductive cycle of the honeybee.The ability to operate forklifts, operate honey processing equipment, and drive commercial trucks is a significant advantage to applicants. Maintain current knowledge of Honeybee research Managing team members Beehive divides Grafting queen cells Routine hive monitoring (mite counts, honey and queen record keeping, etc.) Honey harvesting, frequently lifting 85 lbs honey boxes Assembly and maintenance of beekeeping equipment Working knowledge of common hand tools and power equipment
In addition, Hawaii Island Honey Company is an active participant in local scientific research for the betterment of the honey bee, and personal interest in these areas is important.
